October 2001

Dear readers !

Part 4 of the slack sheet collection "Schwarzbuch", lies in front of you.

No, it no longer deals with the Rolling Stones Schwarzbuch but instead, with the Schwarzbuch from Dieter Hoffmann concerning the Rolling Stones recording medium. A fine difference that has an immense legal effect. Therefore, the important reference too "The book contains exclusive information about the Rolling Stones but it's not authorised by them in any form".

Now, what has changed for you ? The lettering, "Rolling Stones", was dropped from the cover. On the attached pig file, it has been made unrecognisable respectively, it is no longer available on new files.

Colour pages, will for now, no longer be available as a print on demand is not feasible here and the submission costs on a possible edition stop are too high.

So enough said. Even the Lawyers could not kill the fun my side up to now. My vision towards the complete works is just too big. Thank God, for the regular Bill Wyman's Rhythm' Kings concerts which helps to get rid of possible phases of frustration with good music in a relaxed atmosphere.

My work began this time with the entrance into the Paris concerts of 1976. Eternally not heard and in my opinion totally undervalued up to now. Just recently I caught myself not knowing anymore which CD now comes from which day. Problem recognized, problem solved for you. The 76 of Paris Stop is now completely listed with cross-references.

After the Beatles, the Who and the Kinks outshined with outstanding "BBC" publications, the rumour mill was turning in the Stones camp about a possible legalization of the adequately known BBC tracks. It remained once again as rumours. Reason enough for me to up-date the BBC Basis entries and publish them for you. I am especially proud here of the "Beautiful Delilah" entry.

At the time of the publication, in 1973, the LP contained material that was otherwise not available (for example the title song). The result was a huge demand which was answered by the Bootleggers with a great number of editions. Already 8 editions were listed in the old Schwarzbuch. Now there are 26 editions documented. Even on the topic BBC, the reunion of the "Special Section" from the Weißbuch 1991 succeeded with the since then newly added publications such as "Lost Treasure" or Beat Beat Beat At The Beeb".

Furthermore, there are also newly discovered rarities such as the LP "Session" which was presumably the basis for the vinyl classic "Memphis Tennesse". The Early Live / TV entries were taken care of at the same time. The new studio entries in terms of "Trident" are certainly a highlight. Peter Winterstein has tirelessly evaluated the newest dates of the scene (Thanks, Nico!) and has worked it into the Recording Index. This represents the basis of all my publications. Should all go well,  there will the first complete edition of this Recording Index in April 2002. The final publication deadline will be announced in the Basement News in time.

The editorial part of the book which, as of now represents its own chapter in form of an appendix, has been completed this time with the "European Tour 1970". The detailed article from the BN # 9, has been completely re-worked here. This is why the number of the published CDs about this tour since the processing at that time, has increased from 7 to 24, believe it or not. All 24 CDs have now been fully discussed. By means of the appendix, an entry in the important 70s Tour is made light and easy. The vinyl publications are fully comprehensible through the appendix and are to follow as entries in part 5. With 114 pages LP Section for 76 entries, the quota was already full. Even a hard job was made in the CD section and for example the mountain of 1973 Brussels CDs was cut down which led to the thickest Schwarzbuch volume ever. For the first time, the index contains a so-called Quick Info, sorted by themes / Sources in order to simplify the orientation. Especially for theme areas, which have not been dealt with in the appendix, these references will certainly serve a purpose. By rule, it deals with a concert date or a short remark.

The appendix has finally received a classification. Following the preface, an overview of how your Schwarzbuch is to look has been attached. With now 541 CD, 252 LP and 21 EP entries, it now deals with the most detailed publication of its kind of which I am very proud. Of course always keeping in the back of my mind that this would bee meaningless without you as a reader. I sincerely hope that I have duly fulfilled your highest expectations with the included themes.

your

Dieter Hoffmann
